About the Camp

Young Judaea Sprout Brooklyn Day Camp offers a joyful, diverse environment where children of various backgrounds come together to explore Jewish values, connect with Israel, and learn Hebrew — all in a friendly summer setting. No prior Hebrew experience necessary!

Position: Unit Head

We seek a mature, responsible, energetic, and nurturing leader to oversee our camp unit. This role is perfect for someone enthusiastic about camp life, flexible, and a team player willing to wear many hats. The camp operates from June 22nd – August 14th, with staff training scheduled for June 14-18, plus an additional day for Unit Heads to be determined. The daily schedule runs from 7:45am - 5:00pm, Monday – Friday. Compensation ranges from $6,000 - $7,000, depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities

Staff Supervision 👥

• Supervise 12–15 counselors
• Manage staff performance and well-being
• Conduct ongoing staff training as needed
• Oversee the writing of camper reports
• Report staff issues and support to the Director
• Coordinate substitute coverage for absent staff

Camper Care 🧒

• Support the well-being and positive experience of all campers
• Be familiar with each group’s schedule and provide extra support when necessary
• Address behavioral and social/emotional issues with counselors
• Report camper behavioral or emotional concerns to the Director
• Contact parents regarding camper issues
• Oversee camper arrival and dismissal procedures

Camp Leadership & Community 🌟

• Participate in the camp Leadership Team with the Director and Assistant Director
• Assist in planning and executing Staff Orientation
• Serve as a positive role model for the entire camp community

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree (MSW or similar) preferred
• At least 3 years’ experience working with pre-school and/or elementary-aged children
• Supervisory experience
• Previous summer camp experience or employment preferred
