Residency & Fees 🏡💳
Residency requirements are detailed in Item No. 5 of the General Information. Processing fees are:
- Non-refundable, payable by credit/debit card for each exam
Fee Waivers: Available if you are unemployed, support a household, eligible for Medicaid, receiving SSI, or Public Assistance, or are a qualifying service member or veteran. Verification is required. When prompted, select the Fee Waiver option and follow instructions to submit the necessary documentation.

The Nassau County Civil Service is implementing electronic canvassing:
- Letters will be sent to the email address provided in your application
- Save no-reply@nassaucountyny.gov to your contacts to prevent spam issues
- Check inbox and spam folders regularly
- Notify the Commission in writing of any address or contact changes
- Respond to all correspondence; more than two non-responses may remove you from the eligible list
Note: Total examination time for tests scheduled on this date cannot exceed eight hours.
Examination Subjects & Assessments 📋
Subjects Covered:
- Spelling: Test your ability to spell words used in business communication
- Alphabetizing: Test your skill in filing alphabetically
- Record Keeping: Assess your capacity for routine record-keeping tasks
- Clerical Operations: Evaluate skills involving letters, numbers, sorting, and checking
Typing Test 🖥️
Starting June 2021, typing speed and accuracy will be assessed during probation. Candidates successful in the written exam will demonstrate proficiency as a probation requirement. Failure to do so may result in termination.

General Information & Application Guidelines 📚
- Submit inquiries to the Executive Director of the Nassau County Civil Service Commission
- Establish qualifications with sufficient documentation; work experience gained in violation of Civil Service Law will not be credited
- Necessary certificates, licenses, military discharge papers (DD214), and education proof (diplomas, transcripts) must be submitted with your application
- Colleges are considered at a rate of 30 credits per completed year
- Volunteer experience, if verifiable, may be accepted with proper documentation
- Educational substitutions require appropriate degrees or diplomas
- Bring the official notice of examination for admittance
- For examinations administered outside Nassau County or other jurisdictions, contact this office at least two weeks prior to the exam date
- Fingerprinting may be conducted at the examination site or as required afterwards
- Alternate examination dates can be requested with proper documentation and timely notice
