Organization Description
The Turkish Program is a dynamic language initiative providing accessible Turkish language classes both online and in person. It is part of the Halbuki Linguist Cooperative, which specializes in teaching less commonly taught languages to foster a more multilingual world. Our mission focuses on endangered language revitalization, linguistic justice initiatives, and supporting the livelihoods of linguists through high-quality, accessible education. 🌍
Location
In person in the San Francisco Bay Area (Oakland or San Francisco; exact location TBD).
Position Overview
The Turkish Program, based in California, has been teaching Turkish to English-speaking adults for over four years. We are looking for dedicated Turkish Language Teachers to conduct in-person classes in the Bay Area. The ideal candidate will have a background in language pedagogy, linguistics, and fluency in both Turkish and English, with experience teaching Turkish as a second language to adults. The role requires availability for classes on weekday afternoons and evenings, from 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM US West Coast Time. 🕒

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, interactive Turkish language lessons tailored to various proficiency levels.
- Adapt lesson plans to meet students’ individual needs, learning styles, and goals.
- Maintain communication with program administrators regarding scheduling and student progress.
- Incorporate cultural elements into lessons to enhance understanding of Turkish traditions and customs.
- Create a supportive and motivating classroom environment that encourages active participation and learning.
- Collaborate with the program director and fellow instructors to align curriculum and teaching strategies.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Turkish, Linguistics, Education, or a related field preferred.
Language Proficiency
- Native or near-native fluency in Turkish.
- Working proficiency in English is mandatory.
Teaching Experience
- Experience teaching Turkish as a foreign language is required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt lessons for diverse learners.
- Professional, responsible, timely, and respectful demeanor.
