Job Summary 🎯

The Linguist will perform real-time translations of sensitive materials, including colloquialisms and slang, from foreign languages into English. Responsibilities include analyzing intercepted communications, extracting pertinent information, and providing accurate translations and transcriptions to assist law enforcement agencies.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities 🛠️

• Listen to oral intercepts in English or foreign languages and provide verbal and written summaries
• Relay all relevant information to the client
• Contribute to maintaining a master list of slang and coded language
• Maintain a voice library throughout the project
• Transcribe and translate calls, audio files, and electronic messages during low activity periods
• Create court-ready transcriptions and translations following specified formats
• Utilize various reference tools developed during the project
• Achieve a minimum productivity of 18-22 minutes of conversation transcribed/translated per day
• Operate government-provided translation equipment such as JSI voice box, Pen-link, and Comverse
• Keep a daily productivity log
• Use government-approved computer systems; possess strong skills in MS Word and Excel
• Perform additional duties within scope as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements ✅

• Educational qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree + 3 years of professional experience OR
  • Associate degree + 5 years of professional experience OR
  • High School Diploma + 7 years of experience
• U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
• Proficiency in source language colloquial terms, social media, and web chat
• Ability to obtain law enforcement sensitive clearance
• Excellent verbal and written skills in both source and target languages
• Ability to obtain ALTA Language Certification in Foreign Language and English
• Strong computer skills in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to interpret technical feedback and escalate issues appropriately
• Commitment to outstanding customer service and professional representation
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and prioritize tasks
• Must be able to testify based on completed work
• Translate/transcribe 18-22 minutes of audio daily; type at 45 WPM
• Available to work at least 32 hours weekly with a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Security & Work Conditions 🔒

• Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance
• Successful background investigations, medical, and drug screening
• Residency requirement: 3 consecutive years within the last 5 years
• Physical demands:
  • Sitting 90-95% of the time
  • Fingering, typing, using phone systems regularly
  • Minimal standing, walking, climbing, or lifting
