Our phone interpreters play a vital role in connecting people who need help communicating—whether between healthcare providers and patients or within essential service interactions.
What You'll Be Doing
This position involves performing skilled consecutive, first-person interpretation. Work is carried out and reviewed under direct supervision, following well-defined policies and procedures. Opportunities for independent judgment are limited—most problems are referred to a supervisor, especially non-routine issues. This description applies to all Interpreter roles, regardless of language spoken.
Essential Functions (Major Duties & Responsibilities) 📋
- Provides meaning-for-meaning interpreting.
- Follows CyraCom's interpreter protocols as per training, policies, and procedures.
- Maintains confidentiality in line with CyraCom policies and interpreter ethics.
- Attends all required interpreter training, including sessions from the CyraCom Quality and Development Department.
- Continuously expands vocabulary and subject matter knowledge across fields such as medical, legal, and social services.
- Adheres to confidentiality policies consistently.
- Utilizes standard office equipment like telephones, computers, copiers, and fax machines.
- Works with MS Office applications such as Outlook, Word, and Edge or other browsers.
- Demonstrates punctuality and reliability, following written and verbal instructions, completing tasks on schedule, and effectively communicating in English and target language.
- Works independently or within a team, maintaining appropriate interactions with colleagues, supervisors, and customers.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 🔑
- Fluency in English and the target language
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in both languages
- Basic understanding of linguistics and cultural differences
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances
- Calm and effective response in emergency situations
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently with initiative
- Maintains strict confidentiality according to company policies
- Proficient in keeping supervisors informed of issues
- Ability to establish and maintain positive work relationships
- Competent in Microsoft Office Suite and internet browsers
- Operates common office equipment such as computers, fax, copier, and phone systems
Qualifications ✅
- 18 years of age or older
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proficiency in English and at least one other language, as assessed by our Language Checkup
