Class Title

Bilingual Education Teacher

Characteristics of the Class

Under the supervision of the school principal, the teacher is responsible for instructional delivery, specialized services, and support to students. The goal is to develop students’ skills to effectively perform coursework in English, maintain discipline in assigned classes, and perform related duties as required.

Essential Functions 🎯

  • Instructional Planning: Designing lesson plans and preparing educational materials tailored to each student's needs, aligned with CPS policies, Illinois Learning Standards, and legal requirements.
  • Assessment: Administering tests and language assessments to evaluate students’ language abilities and tracking progress towards educational goals.
  • Curriculum Delivery: Developing engaging lesson plans utilizing appropriate instructional techniques to help limited English proficient students overcome participation barriers.
  • Standards and Evaluation: Establishing positive learning expectations, evaluating student progress, and maintaining accurate records of achievements.
  • Instructional Methods: Applying contemporary learning theories, incorporating diverse materials, and participating in the development of new teaching techniques.
  • Classroom Management: Setting and enforcing rules of conduct, promoting a respectful environment, and implementing programs to improve attendance and behavior.
  • Student Engagement: Encouraging self-discipline, positive self-concept, and fair teacher-student relationships.
  • Parent and Community Communication: Conducting conferences with parents and guardians, counseling students, and coordinating extracurricular activities and field trips.
  • Professional Development: Participating in meetings and utilizing community resources to enhance instructional effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications 📜

Education and Experience

Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework necessary to obtain an Illinois State Board of Education teaching license.

Licensure Requirements

Possession of an Illinois State Board of Education educator license with a bilingual endorsement aligned with the grade level taught.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of subject matter as per state certification standards.
  • Understanding of contemporary teaching principles and classroom management techniques.
  • Ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs.
  • Capability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, parents, and community members.
