Job Summary 📝

The Mental Health Therapist primarily delivers mental health and case management services to children, adolescents, adults, and their families. Responsibilities include assessments, evaluations, individual and family therapy, treatment planning, and collaboration with external agencies. This role involves documentation, billing, and potentially obtaining additional certifications as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education 🎓

  • MHTII: Master's degree in a mental health field with BBS Registered intern number
  • MHTIII: Master's degree with BBS License

Experience 💼

  • Two years of mental health experience with the target age group(s) in residential or outpatient settings (preferred)

Licenses & Certifications 🏅

  • MHTII:
    • BBS MFT intern registration, BBS ASW associate registration, or LPCI registration
    • Valid California Driver's License
  • MHTIII:
    • MFCC, LCSW, or LPCC license in California
    • Valid California Driver's License
    • May require LPS Certification for 5150 hold authority
    • Additional certifications for evidence-based practices may be needed

Ability to visually and audibly assess adolescent behaviors and needs.

Safety Precautions: Demonstrated CPR and first aid training as required by the program.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 🎯

  1. Interview clients and significant others to evaluate their need for services.
  2. Collaborate with clients, families, referring agencies, and external parties to promote rehabilitation and social-emotional well-being.
  3. Maintain a working knowledge of psychiatric illnesses and mental health interventions, including co-occurring substance use disorders.
  4. Conduct accurate mental health evaluations and provide individualized treatment and case management.
  5. Serve as liaison with external agencies, including Department of Children and Family Services, Department of Mental Health, Probation, and others.
  6. Assist in preparing clients for housing, vocational, educational, and treatment success.
  7. Employ a flexible "whatever it takes" approach, including counseling, shadowing, training, and modeling.
  8. Be available by phone for crisis intervention, support, and problem resolution — including after hours and weekends.
  9. Provide outpatient assessment, treatment planning, case management, and brokerage services as outlined.
  10. Coordinate client discharges appropriately, following agency protocols.
  11. Accurately document billing and clinical progress in EMR, adhering to all applicable policies and regulations.
  12. May be asked to obtain LPS Certification for 5150 holds and respond to emergencies accordingly.
