Job Summary
This position provides students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The goal is to enable students to develop competencies and skills to succeed in society.
Duties And Responsibilities ✨
- Demonstrates current, accurate, and comprehensive knowledge of curriculum topics and the state Standards of Learning; prepares students to master grade-level standards.
- Plans instruction by including appropriate curriculum objectives, learning activities, and lesson plans for students and substitutes. Instructs assigned classes at designated locations and times.
- Uses current school and division data to inform daily and long-range instructional decisions.
- Selects and creates comprehensive materials and technological resources tailored to meet students' abilities and needs.
- Prepares for classes as assigned, providing written evidence of preparation upon request.
- Links current content and skills with past and future learning experiences, actively engaging all students.
- Communicates key learning goals, concepts, and procedures clearly and appropriately.
- Uses a variety of instructional strategies to promote active student learning that accommodates diverse needs.
- Models and incorporates technology use to support instruction and learning.
- Provides opportunities for individual differences and equitable participation.
- Offers ongoing and timely feedback to students and parents to encourage progress.
- Implements a variety of assessment strategies to measure student achievement.
- Maintains records of student performance and attendance, managing time efficiently.
- Establishes and maintains rapport with students.
- Creates a safe and conducive classroom environment.
- Maintains appropriate behavior standards positively and constructively.
- Demonstrates professional demeanor and adheres to ethical standards; fosters respectful relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community.
- Participates in professional development continuously.
- Attends staff meetings, serves on committees, and completes required processes like teacher evaluation and record keeping.
- Provides service to the profession and school.
- Maintains effective communication and collaboration with administrators, colleagues, parents, and the community.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) 📚
- Bachelor's degree with appropriate certification, from an accredited college or university.
- Possess or be eligible for a teacher license from the Virginia Department of Education.
- Work under the guidance of building administrators within school division policies and state regulations.
- Knowledge of VDOE and WJCC curriculum and integration techniques.
- Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum effectively.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with administrators, colleagues, students, parents, and the community.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong human relations skills.
Supervision Structure
- Supervises: Students in school, may supervise activities of teacher assistants or volunteers.
- Receives supervision from: Building administrators, with support from Curriculum and/or Team Leaders.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements 🚶♂️📝
This role involves highly complex duties requiring a high tolerance for change and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. The schedule often includes meetings before and after school, with significant physical activity such as standing, walking, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling.
