Job Overview

Position: Teacher in the School District of Philadelphia

Salary ranges from $55,771 to $97,852, depending on education level and years of experience. Please note, the salary listed in your offer letter will be a quote, contingent upon verification of your credentials and experience by your educational institution(s) and previous employer(s). Verification can occur at any stage of the hiring process and is non-negotiable.

Job Summary

A teacher in this role is responsible for planning and delivering instruction in their subject area, following district scope and sequence guidelines. They will:

  • Provide engaging instruction utilizing real-life applications and simulations
  • Use tools, materials, processes, and technology—including software applications—to develop lessons
  • Conduct both formal and informal assessments within the classroom and district-wide

Essential Functions

  • Assess students' skill levels and align classroom goals with state and local standards
  • Deliver instruction in respective subject areas
  • Emphasize real-life applications and simulations in teaching
  • Teach inquiry techniques encouraging experimentation and problem-solving
  • Provide technical expertise in tools, materials, and software applications
  • Create learning experiences demonstrating understanding and technological competence
  • Encourage inquiry-based learning using learned skills and technology
  • Establish a classroom environment tailored to students’ needs and interests
  • Collaborate with colleagues within and across disciplines to integrate skills
  • Stay updated on the latest educational developments
  • Attend faculty meetings to discuss school issues and teaching strategies
  • Maintain classroom discipline and manage attendance, grades, and records

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

Certificates and Licenses

  • Valid Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate for the respective grade level and subject endorsements, OR
  • Eligibility to obtain an emergency permit and maintain it until instructional certification is granted

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Principles, practices, and methods of grade-level education
  • Subject-specific expertise and curriculum content
  • Educational materials, methodologies, and practices for the relevant grade level
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving techniques
  • Child growth and development theories
  • State standards and performance benchmarks
  • Technological innovations and software applications in education
  • Authentic performance assessment principles

Ability to:

  • Assess student needs and learning styles to design differentiated instruction
  • Utilize simulations and technology to enhance learning strategies
  • Facilitate inquiry-based learning across various instructional formats
  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms
  • Maintain productive relationships with faculty, staff, parents, and students
