The National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) is the premier national organization championing the dignity and rights of domestic workers. Founded in 2007, NDWA unites over 76 organizations across 22 states, representing approximately 395,000 workers, including nannies, house cleaners, and care workers. Our vision involves transforming society to value domestic work as essential, where workers are leaders and jobs are secure and dignified.
Alongside our sister organization, Care in Action, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit dedicated to campaigning for domestic workers' rights, we build a powerful, inclusive movement rooted in human rights, dignity, and equality. 💪🌍
Position Overview
We are looking for a creative, fast-paced, and strategic Storytelling Manager with a strong background in communications and media relations. You will develop and manage NDWA’s storytelling program, support spokesperson preparation, organize trainings, and collaborate across teams to ensure the voices of domestic workers are center stage in national conversations.
This position reports to the Senior Communications Director, is fully remote, and requires travel up to 40% of the time. ✈️
Core Responsibilities
I. Storytelling Program Management (35%)
- Oversee the process, system, and storybanking efforts—manage the storytelling database and logistics for spokespeople.
- Coordinate trainings, cohort gatherings, and facilitate story production with cross-team collaboration.
- Package stories into diverse formats—short and long-form written pieces, infographics, video scripts, audio recordings, and visuals.
II. Storytelling Training (35%)
- Prepare and coach speakers for engagements, ensuring alignment with organization messaging.
- Develop and facilitate narrative trainings to empower workers to share their stories effectively.
- Provide targeted mentorship and coaching in small group and one-on-one settings.
- Integrate storytelling components into leadership development and political education programs.
III. Strategy Execution (20%)
- Stay informed on domestic worker issues through regular engagement with NDWA and La Alianza spaces.
- Collaborate with policy, campaigns, communications, and membership teams to incorporate storytelling into strategic plans.
- Ensure storytelling strategies evolve to meet emerging needs and reflect diverse voices.
IV. Press & Media Support (10%)
- Manage incoming press and storytelling requests, serving as the main contact point.
- Work with the Media Relations Director to develop media pitches highlighting workers’ stories.
- Contribute to drafting communication materials when needed.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of national-level communications experience (management experience not required).
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is essential.
- Excellent organizational, writing, and editing skills.
- Strong relationship-building abilities with media partners and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and pay close attention to detail.
- Aligned with NDWA’s values of economic, racial, immigration, and gender justice.
- Experience working with diverse communities and impacted populations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and other relevant platforms.
- Willingness to travel up to 40%.
- Flexibility to perform additional duties as needed.
