About the Role

We are seeking a Staff Engineer (SE5)/Tech Lead for our AI Nurture team, a hands-on engineering leader responsible for driving cross-functional projects, advancing AI-driven real estate solutions, and working closely with US and Israeli engineering teams. This virtual-first role requires candidates on the East Coast of the United States to ensure optimal collaboration.

What You'll Do 🤝

Leadership & Management

• Facilitate challenging projects, guide the team towards action, and employ analytical decision-making amid uncertainty
• Manage and oversee the work of US-based engineers
• Foster a collaborative environment aligned with Apartment List's culture and practices
• Collaborate closely with the Head of AI Nurture (formerly Diffe.rent’s CTO) and Head of Lister Engineering

Project & Technical Oversight

• Identify pathways to progress, providing clarity and direction
• Lead product initiatives and technical health projects
• Drive consolidation of AIN’s tech stack with Apartment List's broader infrastructure, including AI-Proofing
• Participate actively in engineering leadership forums to represent the AIN team and communicate broader organizational interests
• 70+% hands-on engineering work

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Push and drive action in cross-functional projects involving IL and US developers, designers, and product teams
• Coordinate with US-based engineering leaders to ensure alignment and effective collaboration

Skills & Experience ✅

• Experience as a Software Engineer Level 5 with full-stack capabilities and an interest or background in management roles
• Startup experience and mindset
• Leadership: Self-sufficient, proactive leader who thrives in uncertainty, aligns stakeholders, and gets things done
• Bias Toward Action: Focused on long-term visions with immediate results using experiments and research
• Strong Work Ethic: Willing to roll up sleeves, identify when extra effort is needed, and follow through
• Ability to scope and lead cross-functional projects in architecture, design, and ticket grooming
• Experience with Scrum and agile practices
• Familiarity with technologies such as:
• Node.js
• Python
• Ruby on Rails
• React/Next.js
• Databases: MongoDB or Postgres (or equivalents)
• Cloud Platforms: GCP, AWS, or similar
• CI/CD Tools: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar

Location 📍

Must be based on the East Coast of the United States to maximize overlap with our Israel-based teams.

Compensation & Benefits 💰

Salary Range (US) 📊

• Zone 1: $196,000 - $238,000 TTC (including $170,000 - $207,000 base) + equity
• Zone 2: $181,000 - $220,000 TTC (including $158,000 - $191,000 base) + equity
• Zone 3: $166,000 - $202,000 TTC (including $145,000 - $176,000 base) + equity
