✨ Job Overview

Foreign Language Medical Interpreters facilitate health-related communication between Healthcare Providers (HCPs) and Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients. They ensure patients receive understandable, respectful care aligned with their cultural health beliefs, practices, and language preferences.

📝 Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs)

🎓 Education

• Advanced knowledge of medical terminology in both source and target language, demonstrated by passing the ICCS online test and completing a 100-hour LANA training or holding a U.S. degree (MD or RN).
• Additional training and/or experience in medical interpretation, evidenced by completion of a 12-hour LANA (or similar) Basic Interpreter course and documented medical interpreting experience.

🗣️ Language Skills

• Fluency or comparable skill level in both English and the target language(s), validated by the Pacific (or equivalent) Bilingual Language test.
