About the Role 📝
We are seeking a Spanish Translator to support a federal health information initiative with the National Library of Medicine (NLM). This role involves developing and maintaining consumer health information resources such as MedlinePlus, ensuring Spanish-speaking audiences access accurate, culturally appropriate, and current health information.
Key Responsibilities 🎯
- Translate English health content into culturally appropriate, precise Spanish for NLM resources, including MedlinePlus.
- Translate new and revised content such as:
- Health topic summaries
- Medical test monographs
- Research and educational materials
- Ensure translations are culturally sensitive for diverse Spanish-speaking audiences.
- Follow NLM, NIH, and HHS style, content, and plain language guidelines.
- Collaborate with medical writers, librarians, and teams to align English and Spanish content.
- Maintain a cohesive workflow between English and Spanish datasets.
- Review and update translated content to ensure accuracy and currency.
- Apply quality control to uphold translation consistency and correctness.
- Provide Spanish-language expertise to guarantee relevance and appropriateness.
- Perform additional translation tasks as assigned by project leadership.
- Handle other related duties based on training and qualification.
Qualifications ✅
- Bachelor's Degree with at least 2 years of translation experience in digital or written content.
- Fluent in both Spanish and English, oral and written.
- Proven ability to deliver accurate, culturally suitable translations for diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of plain language principles and their application in translations.
- Excellent attention to detail and consistency maintenance across large content sets.
- Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in MS Word.
- Capability to obtain and uphold a Public Trust clearance.
