Bixal Is Hiring A Spanish Language Translator

🚀 Bixal is seeking a talented Spanish Translator to support the delivery of curated, consumer-focused health information for one of our clients. This role requires native fluency in Spanish, strong knowledge of medical and public health terminology, and a passion for culturally relevant content.

Position Overview

This is a part-time position, averaging 20 hours per week. The ideal candidate must be available during business hours and reside within the continental United States. The contract is short-term, guaranteed through July 3, with a possibility of extension. Candidates should also be prepared to travel to Bethesda, MD or Durham, NC for fingerprinting procedures.

Requirements

  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking both Spanish and English in professional and consumer settings
  • Previous professional experience in a bilingual environment
  • Experience with consumer-level health information in both English and Spanish
  • Understanding of culturally-appropriate Spanish tailored for the U.S. Hispanic and Latino communities
  • Minimum of one year working with or evaluating health information
  • Proficiency in working with databases or content management systems; training will be provided, but comfort with learning new systems and tools is essential

Compensation

$44 - $46 per hour

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide Spanish-language expertise to ensure MedlinePlus en Español content remains current, culturally sensitive, and relevant to diverse Spanish-speaking audiences.
  • Update, correct, and edit health topics and medical test monographs based on the latest NLM guidelines and practices, including creating new entries as needed
  • Maintain high-quality database entries following current policies and procedures
  • Translate new content using culturally neutral Spanish translations
  • Update translations for 100 reviewed Medical Test monographs annually and provide full translations for three new Medical Test monographs each year
  • Participate actively in planning, development, testing, and implementation of the "One Consumer Health" portal
  • Support other NLM Spanish-language products and services occasionally
  • Assist with SEO initiatives by translating and revising title tags and meta data
  • Coordinate and share information with Spanish-language programs at NIH and related agencies
