About the Position
The Shapiro-Silverberg Assistant Curator of Judaica reports to the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Curator of Judaica and will help develop this vibrant area of collection. Judaica at the MFA includes a diverse array of objects—from ritual art to historical artifacts—that reflect the Jewish experience across time, place, and media.
Key Responsibilities

Curatorial Support & Exhibition Coordination
Assist with installations and rotations of Jewish objects, propose new displays, collaborate with Conservation, Exhibitions, and Design teams to ensure proper handling, and oversee gallery setups. 🖼️

Collection Management & Documentation
Maintain and update object files, support collection research, oversee conservation and photography proposals, and coordinate the movement and accessioning of objects within the collection. 🗂️

Development of Curator Circle & Events
Support the establishment of a new Curator Circle, contributing to event planning, selecting speakers, managing invites and RSVPs, and coordinating onsite and virtual activities. 🎤

Internships & Community Outreach
Assist in hiring and mentoring interns for MFA Pathways and youth programs like Teen Arts Council and STEAM Team. Help organize public programs, community events, and educational activities. 🤝

Exhibition and Acquisition Support
Contribute to exhibition research, object checklists, loan processes, and public facing materials. Support the acquisition process through research and communication with involved departments. ✨

Public Engagement & Education
Respond to inquiries from scholars, students, and visitors; conduct collection tours; and assist in creating interpretative texts, labels, and promotional content for exhibitions and digital platforms. 🌍
Qualifications & Requirements
- Postgraduate degree in Art History, Jewish History, Jewish Studies, or related fields with demonstrated expertise in Judaica.
- 3-5 years extensive curatorial and museum experience.
- Proficiency in biblical and modern Hebrew; knowledge of Yiddish and other European languages is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent research and communication abilities.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (IDEA) principles.
- Familiarity with MS Office Suite and museum database systems, preferably “The Museum System” (TMS).
Compensation & Schedule
💰 Salary: $73,967 - $75,000
🕒 Full-time position, 35 hours per week
