Job Summary

Creates a classroom environment that fosters learning and personal growth, motivating students to develop essential skills, attitudes, and knowledge for an excellent education.

Essential Functions

  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials; provides individualized and small group instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Teaches district-approved curriculum and translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to promote an effective learning environment.
  • Evaluates students’ academic and social progress, keeps records, and prepares timely progress reports. Communicates these to parents regularly.
  • Identifies student needs, makes referrals, and develops strategies for individualized education plans.
  • Maintains a professional workday, supporting collaboration with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Maintains open communication with parents through newsletters, notes, phone calls, emails, and conferences.
  • Assists in planning and coordinating work of paraprofessionals and volunteers during classroom activities and field trips.
  • Participates actively in building and department meetings, workshops, and seminars to stay current with best teaching practices.
  • Supports the district’s mission by demonstrating courteous, cooperative behavior to foster a harmonious workplace environment.
  • Engages in personal professional growth through goal-setting and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a closely related field.

Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Valid Minnesota Teaching License
  • Driver’s license
  • Continued employment contingent upon maintaining all licenses and certificates in active, unsuspended status.

Knowledge and Skills

Required Knowledge

  • District policies and curriculum requirements.
  • State and federal laws governing public education, including Minnesota Department of Education regulations.
  • Legal, ethical, and professional standards for educators.
  • Effective oral presentation techniques.
  • Computer applications related to teaching.
  • Business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Employees must meet physical demands such as mobility within the classroom, using equipment, standing for extended periods, lifting up to 20 pounds, reading printed and digital materials, and communicating effectively.

Work Environment

Work primarily occurs in a classroom setting, with occasional travel throughout the district.

Hours and Compensation

Position Details:

  • Part-time: 0.667 FTE (approximately 185 days)
  • Union Contract: HEA
  • Salary Range:
    • BA, Step 0: $48,039.00
    • MA, Step 0: $52,223.00
