The Role

Your strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and dedication to delivering accurate work make you an invaluable part of our team.

You will work closely with Sofar's Wayfinder team on mission-critical operational tasks, including:

• Ship routing support 🚢
• Operational tasks for data and service products ⚙️
• Assisting the ocean science team in integrating new data sources for analysis 🌍
• Enhancing internal tooling and processes 🔧

This role requires excellent time management, independence, confident decision-making, and the ability to navigate cross-cultural communication between Japanese clients and a global team.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience in meteorology, oceanography, or a maritime-related field
• Bachelor's degree in oceanography, climatology, geography, or a related discipline
• Background in shipping or maritime industry, especially with ship or weather routing
• Familiarity with observation and forecast data such as WaveWatch III, HYCOM, and ECMWF
• Strong understanding of mid- and long-range weather forecasting and patterns
• Comfortable with data analysis and modern web applications
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills — experience with Japanese maritime companies is a strong plus
• Ability to work weekend rotations 🕒
• A genuine passion for and/or connection to the oceans 🌊
