Job Description
The Retail Banker I acts as a vital customer liaison, embodying TD’s brand promise by leveraging financial expertise and consultative advice to assist customers with their banking needs. This role supports business growth through identifying suitable TD solutions that help clients reach their financial objectives and strengthen their relationship with TD.
Depth & Scope
- Proficient in banking products, services, and routine transactions to educate customers and refer them to appropriate team members or partners.
- Possesses broad knowledge of the full product suite, demonstrating low to moderate complexity/risk understanding.
- Builds and nurtures customer relationships by actively listening, identifying needs, and offering tailored solutions or referrals.
- Recommends products based on customer needs, highlighting features and benefits to aid in financial success.
- Uses Customer Relationship Management tools to proactively evaluate and address customer needs, engaging in outbound sales activities.
- Independently resolves customer issues, escalating when necessary.
- Explains detailed or complex information clearly to customers.
- Participates in outreach, service, and advisory activities aligned with our “unexpectedly human” promise.
- Engages in loan product conversations and facilitates application processes.
- Maintains active registration with the NMLS (Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry).
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least 1 year of customer service or sales experience, including volunteering, education, or military background preferred.
- Teller experience is preferred.
- Ability to complete teller training upon hire.
- Strong communication skills; ability to engage in educational conversations and multitask effectively.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; Notary License is a plus.
Customer Accountabilities 💼
- Deliver a legendary customer experience through relationship-building, service, and advice.
- Support the Bank's Customer Service Strategy with trust-building educational content, consultative support, and proactive insights.
- Act as a customer advocate, providing solutions while boosting financial confidence.
- Manage customer flow, conduct needs discovery, and guide clients accordingly.
- Promote self-service banking options, including digital channels.
- Handle transactions such as deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and check cashing, while adhering to security procedures.
- Recognize transaction needs and educate clients on available banking channels.
- Personalize each banking interaction, demonstrating genuine customer care.
Shareholder & Operational Responsibilities 🏢
- Ensure compliance with operational policies, regulations, and risk management standards.
- Support efficient store operations and accurate documentation.
- Escalate high-risk transactions and maintain due diligence.
- Adhere to TD’s Code of Conduct and risk policies.

Legal & Physical Requirements 📄
This role qualifies under the Regulation Z of the Truth in Lending Act and the SAFE Act. You must be eligible for employment, registered with NMLS, and pass criminal background and credit checks.
Physical Activity: Frequent sitting, standing, and walking; occasional lifting, bending, and reaching. Continual focus and problem-solving are essential.
Travel: Occasional domestic travel; no international travel expected.
