Role Overview

The Retail Banker I serves as a customer liaison, helping to fulfill TD's brand promise by using financial expertise and consultative advice to support customers with their banking needs. This role plays a vital part in achieving business growth by identifying suitable TD solutions that help customers meet their financial goals and strengthen their relationship with TD.

Depth & Scope 🔍

  • Proficient in products, services, and routine transactions to educate customers on bank offerings and refer them to appropriate team members or internal partners, ensuring a positive customer experience.
  • Requires broad knowledge of the full product suite, services, and processes within the business area, typically involving low to moderate complexity and risk.
  • Builds and nurtures customer relationships through product knowledge, active listening, and engaging conversations to identify additional needs and offer relevant solutions or referrals.
  • Makes tailored product recommendations that support customers during life events, help save time and money, and exceed expectations.
  • Uses Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools to assess customer needs proactively, identify solutions, and lead outbound sales activities.
  • Independently resolves customer issues, errors, and problems, escalating when necessary.
  • Builds strong working relationships by explaining detailed, sometimes complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Performs a wide range of activities with full proficiency, gained through job-specific training.
  • Participates in customer outreach, servicing, and advisory activities to deliver on TD's 'unexpectedly human' promise.
  • Engages customers in conversations about loan products and facilitates application intake.
  • Maintains an active registration with the NMLS (Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry).

Education & Experience 🎓

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 1+ years of experience working with customers or sales, or equivalent demonstrated through volunteering, education, or military service (preferred).
  • Teller experience is preferred.
  • Must complete teller training upon hire to handle customer transactions.
  • Proven ability to engage customers effectively while educating them on products and services.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills—clear, concise, and consistent.
  • Ability to prioritize and schedule work independently.
  • Reliable decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Notary License (Preferred)

  • Lead lobby activities, welcoming customers warmly, discovering their needs, and guiding them appropriately.
  • Understand customer preferences and educate them on self-service options that fit their banking habits.
  • Serve as a point of escalation for customer questions or concerns as needed.
  • Perform various teller transactions, including cashing checks, deposits, transfers, and withdrawals, while adhering to fraud prevention protocols and operational policies.
