We are seeking a dedicated full-time Data Operations Research Analyst with reading proficiency in Chinese (Traditional/Simplified), based in Washington D.C., to help us navigate and mitigate global risks.
🔍 Responsibilities
- Monitor new sanctions, enforcement actions, and policy activities by regulatory agencies relevant to Kharon’s products
- Conduct research on international affairs that influence business risks and identify relevant data sources
- Curate, publish, maintain, and perform quality assurance of datasets
- Validate and reconcile data to support new products and partnership initiatives
- Ensure data accuracy through detailed quality assurance and develop tooling as needed
- Write original code to collect primary data in multiple languages, including Chinese
- Collaborate across teams to build research projects and derive insights from existing content
- Report key metrics on projects and provide regular updates to stakeholders
🎯 Qualifications
- Educational background: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, International Relations, Political Science, Security Studies, Regional Studies, History, Sociology, or related fields
- Experience with sanctions, export controls, anti-money laundering, or countering the financing of terrorism
- Research experience in international security and economy in high-risk jurisdictions
- Knowledge of securities markets, financial instruments, and investment risk
- Reading proficiency in Chinese (Traditional/Simplified)
- 2+ years experience in coding languages, with strong preference for Python
- 1+ year experience with scraping and data parsing tools such as Selenium, Scrapy, BeautifulSoup, pandas, etc.
- Willingness to learn SQL
- Experience with data analysis, visualization, and graph databases (Neo4J)
- Basic understanding or willingness to learn web technologies like HTML, JavaScript, CSS, XPath, JSON, etc.

💡 Your Role in Our Mission
Reporting to the Associate Director of Data Operations, you will:
- Conduct open-source research on foreign affairs and national security issues
- Analyze and interpret data related to sanctions, export controls, and illicit networks
- Identify, validate, and reconcile data sources to support evolving market demands
- Develop new datasets and update existing ones, leveraging emerging sources and topics
- Monitor regulatory activities and conduct research on international policy changes
- Write primary data collection scripts, especially targeting Chinese-language sources
- Work collaboratively to surface insights, build research frameworks, and report on key project metrics

💰 Compensation
The base salary range for this position is $68,000 - $78,000. Please note that this does not include potential bonuses, benefits, or equity options.
