Role Overview 🎯

As an interpreter at TPC, you'll facilitate accurate, culturally sensitive communication for limited-English speakers. Your role may involve supporting patients during medical appointments or helping individuals access essential services. This is a structured, call center-style position that demands professionalism, speed, and precision.

Ideal candidates: Possess professional-level fluency in English, Fuzhounese, Mandarin, and Cantonese, capable of interpreting complex conversations involving idiomatic expressions, specialized terminology (medical, legal, financial), and emotionally charged content.

Success in this role hinges on active listening, emotional resilience, professionalism, empathy, and adaptability. You'll manage live calls under pressure, adhering strictly to interpretation protocols to maintain neutrality, accuracy, and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities ☑️

• Provide consecutive interpretation services across sectors such as medical, legal, and customer service in English, Fuzhounese, Mandarin, and Cantonese.
• Ensure complete accuracy, clarity, and neutrality while preserving tone, intent, and emotion.
• Maintain confidentiality and impartiality at all times.
• Manage call flow professionally, intervening respectfully when clarification is needed.
• Demonstrate emotional intelligence in high-pressure or emotionally charged situations.
• Apply active listening, note-taking, and memory techniques for longer exchanges.
• Adhere strictly to the interpreter's role, avoiding personal opinions or advice.
• Participate in ongoing training and coaching to continuously improve skills.
• Utilize basic computer tools (MS Office, internal platforms) for call management and logging.

Required Qualifications ✅

• High school diploma or equivalent (college education preferred)
• Fluency in English, Fuzhounese, Mandarin, and Cantonese (B2+ proficiency or higher)
• Ability to pass language and interpretation assessments
• Minimum of 6 months experience in call centers, customer service, or interpreting roles
• Strong verbal communication skills and ethical judgment
• Ability to work professionally in fast-paced, emotionally complex situations
