Role Overview
Interpreters at TransPerfect facilitate accurate, culturally appropriate communication for limited-English speakers across various industries. Whether supporting medical appointments or accessing vital services, your trilingual fluency will directly contribute to impactful, real-world outcomes. This is a structured call center-style position, requiring professional interpretation of complex conversations involving idiomatic expressions, specialized terminology, and emotionally nuanced content.
Ideal candidates will have:
- Professional-level command of English, Fuzhounese, Mandarin, and Cantonese
- The ability to interpret swiftly and accurately in high-pressure situations
- Strong active listening, emotional control, professionalism, empathy, and adaptability
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consecutive interpretation services across industries such as medical, legal, and customer service
- Ensure interpretation accuracy, clarity, and neutrality, preserving tone and emotion
- Maintain confidentiality and impartiality at all times
- Manage call flow professionally, including respectful clarification interventions
- Demonstrate emotional intelligence during high-pressure and emotionally charged interactions
- Utilize memory retention, active listening, and note-taking techniques for extended exchanges
- Remain within the interpreter role, avoiding personal opinions or advice
- Participate in ongoing training, coaching, and performance feedback
- Use basic computer tools (MS Office, internal platforms) to manage calls and log activity effectively

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (college preferred)
- Fluency in English, Fuzhounese, Mandarin, and Cantonese with B2+ proficiency or higher
- Ability to pass language and interpreting assessments
- Minimum of 6 months experience in call center, customer service, or interpreting
- Excellent verbal communication, accuracy, and ethical decision-making skills
- Professionalism in fast-paced, emotionally complex situations
- Strong sense of responsibility, integrity, and time management
- Assertiveness in communication and session control
- Basic computer skills, including typing and MS Office navigation
- Quiet, distraction-free workspace suitable for active listening
- Stable home internet connection (cable, DSL, or fiber; cellular data/hotspots not permitted)
Identity Qualification
Throughout recruitment and training, candidates must provide valid, government-issued photo ID. Failure to do so will disqualify applicants from consideration and training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in medical, legal, or community interpreting (a strong plus)
- Experience with remote work tools and communication platforms
Remote Work Requirements
- Quiet, comfortable, and distraction-free workspace
- Desktop or laptop (Windows or Mac) with at least 16GB RAM
- Reliable broadband internet (minimum 30 Mbps download / 10 Mbps upload) — no cellular data/hotspots
- Computer no older than 5 years, with functioning webcam
- Windows 10 or newer / macOS Big Sur (OS 11) or newer

Please Note
While this position is remote, it is a structured call center environment.
