Role Overview

Interpreters at TPC play a crucial role in enabling accurate and culturally sensitive communication for limited-English speakers. Whether assisting patients during medical appointments or helping clients access essential services, your bilingual/trilingual fluency will make a tangible difference. This structured, call center-style role demands a high level of professionalism, speed, and precision.

We’re Looking for Candidates Who Are:

• Fluent in English, Fuzhounese, Mandarin, and Cantonese with professional-level command
• Capable of interpreting complex conversations, idiomatic expressions, and specialized terminology (medical, legal, financial, etc.)
• Strong active listeners with emotional control, empathy, and adaptability
• Comfortable managing live calls under pressure while maintaining neutrality, accuracy, and confidentiality

Key Responsibilities

• Provide consecutive interpretation across industries such as medical, legal, and customer service
• Ensure accuracy, clarity, tone, and emotional intent are preserved
• Maintain strict confidentiality and impartiality
• Manage call flow professionally, intervening when clarification is needed
• Demonstrate emotional intelligence, especially in high-pressure or emotionally charged situations
• Apply active listening, note-taking, and memory techniques for longer exchanges
• Stay within the role, avoiding personal opinions or advice
• Engage in ongoing training, coaching, and performance feedback
• Utilize computer tools like MS Office and internal platforms to log activity and manage calls

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (college preferred)
• Fluency in English, Fuzhounese, Mandarin, and Cantonese (B2+ or higher)
• Ability to pass language and interpreting assessments
• At least 6 months of experience in call centers, customer service, or interpreting roles
• Strong verbal communication, accuracy, and professionalism in fast-paced, emotionally charged situations
• Good time management, integrity, and sense of responsibility
• Assertiveness in managing sessions and communication
• Basic computer skills, including typing and MS Office proficiency
• A quiet, distraction-free workspace suitable for active listening
• Stable internet connection (cable, DSL, or fiber; cellular hotspots are not permitted)

Identity Verification

Throughout the recruiting and training process, candidates must provide a valid, government-issued photo ID. Failure to do so will lead to disqualification from consideration and training.

Preferred Qualifications ⭐

• Certification in medical, legal, or community interpreting (highly preferred)
• Experience with remote work tools and communication platforms

Remote Work Requirements 🏡

• Quiet and distraction-free work environment
• A desktop or laptop computer (Windows or Mac) with at least 16GB RAM
• Broadband internet (≥30 Mbps download / 10 Mbps upload), no cellular data or hotspots
• Computer no older than 5 years, with functioning webcam
• Operating system: Windows 10+ or macOS Big Sur (OS 11)+
