Support for English Learning Students and Families - Bilingual Liaison

Basic Function

This in-person position involves supporting English Learning (EL) students and their families in the Reynoldsburg School District. The Bilingual Liaison will facilitate effective communication by establishing an outreach, support, and education program targeted at ELL families. The position requires a commitment of 10 hours per week. The candidate must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking both English and Spanish, as specified by ETSS and RSD.

Responsibilities

  • Provide training and education: Assist families in navigating the education system successfully.
  • Support technology needs: Identify and address students’ and parents’ technology access and literacy, including helping obtain district-issued Chromebooks or hotspots and use of learning platforms and parent portals.
  • Create a comprehensive parent information program: Cover topics such as enrollment, school rules, parent rights, and responsibilities.
  • Foster relationships: Maintain ongoing communication with youth, parents, and staff regarding students’ needs and progress.
  • Interpretation services: Provide bilingual interpreting in English and Spanish during conferences, meetings, workshops, and other activities requiring communication in Spanish.
  • Document translation: Translate district and school documents including letters, notices, calendars, flyers, newsletters, and online resources to inform and engage parents.
  • Attend meetings and events: Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and program-related special events.
  • Perform additional duties: Complete tasks as assigned by ETSS and RSD supervisors.

Education

High School diploma required; college degree preferred. Willingness to pursue ongoing professional development is essential.

Qualifications &Experience

  • Language proficiency: Fluency in both English and Spanish — speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Availability: Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends during parent and community events.
  • Technical skills: Experience with technology and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher).
  • Communication skills: Strong public speaking and interpersonal skills in both languages.
  • Transportation: Reliable personal vehicle required.
  • Collaborative attitude: Ability to work positively with parents and school staff.
  • Organizational ability: Initiative in coordinating activities and managing data accurately for reports.
  • Experience: Prior work with families and diverse populations is highly desirable.
