Job Summary
The Program Director will oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of camper, staff, and alumni programs at Camp Ramah in the Poconos and Ramah Day Camp. This leadership role involves creating schedules, organizing special programs, trips, and staff training, working closely with the leadership team to ensure a creative, educational, recreational, and spiritual camp experience.
Employment Details
- Reports to: Assistant Director of Overnight Camp
- Location & Schedule: Full-time, year-round position based at the administrative office in Bala Cynwyd, PA. Summer residency in Lakewood, PA, with onsite visits to Ramah Day Camp in Elkins Park, PA. Includes weekend, evening work during peak season, and occasional travel for professional development and gatherings. Hybrid schedule: 3 days in-office, 2 remote.
- Compensation: $65,000–$70,000 annually
Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Planning
- Create schedules, calendars, curricula, and program outlines for Overnight and Day Camp.
- Innovate through new programming initiatives to enrich the camper experience.
- Collaborate with the year-round team to assess and enhance camp programs, implementing strategic changes.
- Develop curriculum for chinuch and tefillah sessions for both camps.
- Ensure developmentally appropriate programming tailored to diverse camper needs across edot and anafim.
- Partner with the Tikvah director on designing and executing the Tikvah program.
- Oversee procurement of supplies for specialty and program areas.
- Coordinate resources for Jewish educational experiences and Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutoring, in partnership with Camper Care.
- Research and implement vision for trips, service projects, and volunteer opportunities.
- Develop staff training materials and collaborate on ongoing educational programming.
Hiring & Staff Support
- Assist in recruiting program staff for the US and Israel, with support from senior leadership.
- Participate in Mishlachat training seminars.
- Provide guidance and support to bunk counselors, specialists, and the Day Camp Program Director.
Alumni Engagement & Programming
- Lead the vision for summer edah reunions and alumni visits.
- Plan year-round alumni events to foster ongoing connections and support mission realization.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Support camp leadership with program-related administrative tasks.
- Serve as the primary contact for programmatic guests.
- Contribute to the summer leadership team overseeing over 400 campers and 300 staff members.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- At least 5 summers of camp experience, preferably in supervisory roles.
- Experience in designing and delivering creative experiential education.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Comfort working collaboratively and managing multiple priorities independently.
- Calm, flexible, and solutions-oriented under pressure.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and basic AV equipment.
- Passion for Camp Ramah’s mission—supporting community, identity, and belonging through camp.
- Familiarity with Hebrew, Israel education, and Jewish observance in a Conservative, egalitarian environment.
