Job Description

Westminster Theological Seminary invites applications for a full-time, voting faculty position within the Department of Old Testament, with potential teaching responsibilities in the Pastoral Theology department. The successful candidate will focus on teaching biblical languages, Old Testament history and theology, and research methodologies relevant to biblical studies. Additionally, the candidate should be willing and able to teach on topics such as preaching and pastoral ministry.

Valued qualities include a commitment to the tradition and method of scholars like Geerhardus Vos and Richard Gaffin, along with a passion for leading the Hebrew curriculum. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of Westminster Standards’ theology and alignment with the seminary’s distinctive teachings.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching and mentoring students across residential, global, and online programs 📚
  • Teaching Biblical Languages (Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic); competencies in other ancient Near Eastern languages are desirable 🌍
  • Coordinating and overseeing the Hebrew language curriculum 🗂️
  • Ensuring courses meet intended outcomes and collaborating on assessment criteria ✅
  • Contributing to the mission of Westminster through publishing and scholarly work ✍️
  • Supervising Ph.D. dissertations 🎓
  • Supporting the seminary’s mission and strategic initiatives 💡
  • Teaching courses in pastoral ministry and preaching as needed 🎤
  • Performing administrative duties as assigned 🔧
  • Participating in stewardship initiatives through conference speaking, writing, and supporting events 🗣️
  • Other responsibilities as directed by the supervisor 🔄

Requirements

Skills

  • Proficiency in teaching Old Testament, biblical languages, and pastoral theology
  • Exceptional writing skills for academic and popular publications ✍️
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities for teaching, preaching, and conference presentations 🎙️

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. (completed or near completion) in Old Testament or a related field
  • Ordained or ordainable within a NAPARC or similar denomination ✝️
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in teaching, pastoral ministry, or related fields
  • Excellence in research, teaching, and collegiality 🌟
  • Deep familiarity with Westminster Seminary’s mission, history, and distinctives
  • Subscription to the Westminster Standards 📝

Start Date & Employment Details

The position will commence as early as January 1, 2026, and no later than July 1, 2026. This is a full-time, exempt role.
