Job Description
- Lead product development from initial concept to commercialization with hands-on responsibility.
- Collaborate with Sales & Marketing to support reformulation and new product innovations.
- Spearhead sourcing of new ingredients to optimize product cost-efficiency.
- Coordinate cross-functionally to meet project timelines, manage bill of materials (BOM), and assess return on investment (ROI) for reformulation and new products.
- Define testing and equipment needs for ongoing innovation and growth.
- Analyze testing data to evaluate the feasibility of new products.
- Organize plant trials to ensure quality consistency for existing and new products.
- Review and approve formulations that comply with company and regulatory standards.
- Research labeling regulations and collaborate with QA to ensure accurate packaging information.
- Prepare documentation including product specs, formulas, technical reports, and test plans, maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Stay updated on market developments and industry trends to position the company as a leader.
- Provide technical troubleshooting support to minimize production downtime.
- Manage personnel hiring, training, coaching, and disciplinary actions within the department.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in food science, food engineering, chemistry, or related fields.
- 5 to 7 years in product development, including 2-3 years of R&D leadership in the food manufacturing industry.
- Experience with Asian frozen products, particularly spring rolls, is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of ingredients functionality, product evaluation, health & nutrition, manufacturing processes, microbiology, quality assurance, and market research.
- Proficiency in project management, including resource allocation, cost control, and scheduling.
- Familiarity with USDA, FDA, and relevant food laws and regulations.
- Flexibility to adapt work schedules based on operational needs.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
- Ability to motivate, coach, and recognize team members effectively.
