The Florida Democratic Party (FDP) is looking for an experienced, bilingual Press Secretary to lead its press strategy, cultivate media relationships, and serve as the on-the-record spokesperson. Position Overview

The Press Secretary will work closely with the Communications Director to:

  • Serve as the primary contact for local outlets, Hispanic media, and national press 📺
  • Manage and respond to a high volume of press inquiries ✉️
  • Pitch proactive stories and serve as the on-the-record spokesperson 🎤
  • Play an essential role in rapid response efforts ⚡
  • Collaborate across departments and with external partners and surrogates

This role involves training Democratic officials and surrogates on media engagement, providing message guidance, and helping to strengthen the party’s narrative.

Reporting & Compensation

This position reports to the Communications Director and offers a salary ranging from $72,000 to $80,000. The FDP offers a competitive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision coverage, with opportunities for growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the on-the-record spokesperson when needed
  • Identify and implement rapid response strategies and creative media opportunities
  • Draft statements, talking points, media advisories, and external communications quickly
  • Organize press conferences and media events; travel may be required
  • Create weekly media pitches to promote proactive storytelling
  • Build and maintain relationships with local, state, and national reporters, including Hispanic media outlets
  • Keep media lists updated
  • Respond promptly to press inquiries
  • Support and brief the Chair or surrogates during press interviews

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4+ years political communications experience, with at least one campaign cycle
  • Proven ability to pitch stories and develop reporter relationships
  • Experience in on-the-record communications
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently and meet tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of the media landscape and digital platforms
  • Commitment to Democratic values
  • Flexible and responsive availability outside regular hours
  • Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred; bilingual candidates are highly encouraged

Logistical Requirements

  • This role is based in Florida
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Willingness to travel extensively within Florida, including multi-day trips
