📝 Summary

The primary role of a phlebotomist is to perform various duties including blood draws, troubleshooting, training, and workflow optimization. This role involves close interaction with patients and medical staff to ensure accurate specimen collection and handling.

🔧 Position Responsibilities

• Experience performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging, recording maintenance data, and decontamination.
• Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
• Explain process of venipuncture and specimen collection courteously and clearly.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
• Fully understand physicians' orders for tests and procedures.
• Match laboratory requisitions with specimen tubes accurately.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
• Verify test requisitions and labels for 100% accuracy.
• Prepare specimens for transport following protocol to maintain sample integrity.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual departmental training sessions.
• Answer inquiries by reading laboratory results and managing telephone calls.

🎯 Minimum Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (as required in some states)
• Minimum of 6 months' experience performing phlebotomy procedures
