📝 Job Summary

The primary role of a phlebotomist is to assist with blood draws and specimen collection, troubleshoot technical issues, provide training, and recommend workflows for efficiency and safety.

🔹 Position Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, record maintenance data, and handle decontamination processes.
• Collect and store specimens following established protocols.
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture procedures and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine, fecal).
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and butterfly needles.
• Understand and execute physicians' orders accurately.
• Match laboratory requisitioner forms to corresponding specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test protocols.
• Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens securely for transport.
• Store samples at appropriate temperatures, labels them correctly, and follow specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual departmental trainings.
• Respond to telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to support patient care and client needs.

📋 Minimum Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (required in some states).

💼 Additional Details

• Location: Washington, D.C.
• Schedule: 9am - 6pm, Monday through Friday, with 1 Saturday per month.
