Role Overview

We are seeking an outstanding and creative Teacher of French to join our Greenwich campus as Subject Lead. This is a fully remote teaching position delivering live, synchronous lessons to small classes (maximum 15 students) across French.

As Subject Lead, you will:

  • Shape the vision for visual arts at CGA
  • Drive curriculum design
  • Oversee the consistency, quality, and ambition of teaching across the subject
  • Combine excellent classroom practice with strategic leadership to promote creativity in a fully online environment

Working Pattern

  • Teaching load: up to 22 periods per week
  • Lesson length: 45 to 55 minutes
  • Typical working hours: 7:00 to 15:00 (UK time)
  • Most lessons scheduled between 7:00 and 14:00 (UK time)
  • Some lessons may occur earlier for staff outside the UK, starting from 2:00 UK time onward for staff in Asia

We welcome applications from candidates based in Europe, the Middle East, or Asia, especially those able to support earlier UK teaching hours.

Teaching and Learning Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging live online lessons in French, structured, interactive, and tailored to learner needs
  • Develop competence across the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing
  • Utilize evidence-informed strategies such as retrieval practice, modeling, choral repetition, and guided practice to enhance fluency and accuracy
  • Embed cultural understanding of the Francophone world throughout the curriculum
  • Encourage active student participation through speaking practice and visible thinking activities
  • Assign purposeful homework to reinforce vocabulary, grammar, and communication skills
  • Provide timely, clear, and actionable feedback on both written and spoken work

Curriculum Delivery & Subject Leadership

  • Lead the French subject area, setting the strategic direction for modern languages at CGA
  • Teach students across Key Stage 3 and iGCSE French
  • Deliver curriculum aligned with Pearson Edexcel International GCSE French
  • Lead the design and implementation of International A Level French as the program expands
  • Assist in developing in-house KS3 schemes of work
  • Ensure curriculum consistency, sequencing, and uphold high standards across the department
  • Stay informed about awarding body specifications and exam guidance

Assessment & Progress Monitoring

  • Employ a variety of assessment strategies, including speaking assessments and writing tasks
  • Monitor and track student progress against benchmarks
  • Identify students who need support or extension and adapt teaching accordingly
  • Contribute to internal assessments, mock exams, and reporting cycles

Online Teaching Practice

  • Deliver high-quality lessons in a fully remote, synchronous environment
  • Utilize platforms such as Zoom, Canvas, and Teams effectively
  • Maximize student interaction through breakout rooms, polls, and other online tools
  • Maintain organized and accessible online course materials and resources

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified teacher status (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 2 years' teaching experience
  • Native or near-native proficiency in French
  • Experience teaching French at KS3 and GCSE (or international equivalents)
  • Strong subject knowledge in grammar, vocabulary, and cultural content
  • Proven ability to plan and deliver high-quality lessons
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Comfort in using digital tools for teaching and learning
  • Ability to engage and motivate students within an online setting

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience teaching A Level or International A Level French
  • Familiarity with Pearson Edexcel or International Edexcel specifications
  • Previous leadership or curriculum design experience
  • Experience in online or blended learning environments
  • Experience teaching diverse international cohorts
  • Familiarity with Canvas, Zoom, or Teams platforms
  • Ability to teach additional subjects is a plus
