Tufts University Is Hiring A Part-Time Lecturer in Judaic Studies

Join Tufts University as a Part-Time Lecturer in Classical Jewish Literature

Tufts University's Judaic Studies Program is seeking a qualified part-time instructor for a one-semester position starting January 2026, offering an exciting opportunity to teach and explore classical Jewish literature through interdisciplinary perspectives.

Position Overview

  • Type: Part-time, one-semester appointment
  • Starting Date: January 2026
  • Teaching Responsibilities: Two courses in the Spring semester, with potential renewal

Courses Offered

  • Introduction to Talmud: Taught in English
  • Special Topics Course: To be arranged with the Judaic Studies Program

Both courses will incorporate interdisciplinary theoretical approaches such as literary, gender, ritual, or cultural studies to examine post-biblical, classical Jewish literature. Courses may also be offered at the 100-level with additional readings in Hebrew.

The position may be renewed for a full year with a teaching load of one course per semester.

Qualifications

  • ABD or PhD in a relevant field
  • Familiarity with post-biblical, classical Jewish literature and critical-scholarly methods
  • Experience with interdisciplinary theoretical perspectives
  • Proficiency in Hebrew and Aramaic, including spoken Hebrew
  • Record of excellence in teaching
