Position Overview 🚀

The Bilingual Community Navigator supports limited-English-speaking community members—particularly those speaking Arabic, Khmer, Lao, Thai, or Vietnamese—by assisting them in accessing basic needs, navigating community and government services, and providing language support. This role involves in-person, telephone, and remote engagements, monitoring client progress, and referring clients to appropriate resources.

The Navigator reports directly to the Service Navigation Program Manager.

About Service Navigation 🎯

This program aims to support Southeast Asian adults and families in:

  • Meeting basic needs and achieving stable housing
  • Gaining economic independence

Key activities include:

  • Daily translation services for limited English speakers in Khmer, Lao, Thai, and Vietnamese
  • Assistance with housing applications, job placement, and vocational training
  • Weekly English classes
  • U.S. citizenship preparation and testing support

Position Details 💼

  • Title: Bilingual Community Navigator (English/Arabic, Khmer, Lao, Thai, Vietnamese)
  • Compensation: $26.00–$29.00/hour DOE, Nonexempt
  • Part-Time: Up to 20 hours per week
  • Location: 166 Eddy Street, San Francisco, CA 94102
  • Reports To: Service Navigation Program Manager
  • Start Date: ASAP

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 📋

Direct Client Support (75%)

  • Assist clients with basic needs, life goals, and service navigation via person-to-person, phone, or remote support
  • Assess social service needs, behavioral health, and family concerns, then link clients to appropriate services
  • Develop action plans to help clients achieve their objectives
  • Organize client records, follow-up appointments, and help apply for public benefits such as Medi-Cal, SNAP, and housing
  • Collaborate with SEADC staff to refer clients to internal and external programs
  • Advocate and translate for clients accessing community resources
  • Follow up on referrals to community and government programs

Administrative & Project Support (25%)

  • Maintain accurate client records and documentation in databases
  • Participate in agency meetings, supervision, and training sessions
  • Assist with organizing agency events and activities
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications 🎓

Education

  • 2 years post-secondary education required, or relevant experience in lieu of education

Required Experience & Skills

  • Fluency in Arabic, Khmer, Lao, Thai, or Vietnamese (verbal)
  • Minimum 1 year experience in community programs
  • Experience working with low-income and marginalized individuals
  • Strong knowledge of services for adults and families in San Francisco
  • Cultural competency, especially with Khmer communities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a team and manage multiple tasks
  • Active listening, patience, reliability, and professionalism
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Adaptability to new software and technologies

Desired Skills & Experience 🌟

  • Written fluency in Khmer
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience with CRM systems (preferably Salesforce)
  • Familiarity with project management and online communication platforms such as Teams

Compensation Range 💰

The hourly pay for this position ranges from $26.00 to $29.00 based on experience and qualifications.
