CTS Global Supply Chain Solutions Is Hiring A NVOCC Freight Forwarding Operations Manager Import

Join Our Team as a Supply Chain Operations Manager – Import (Ocean & Air) 🚢✈️

We are looking for a highly experienced, detail-oriented professional to lead our import operations in the New York office, ensuring seamless logistics, compliance, and service excellence across our freight forwarding and NVOCC divisions.

Position Summary

The Supply Chain Operations Manager – Import will oversee end-to-end ocean and air import processes, maintain regulatory compliance, optimize operational efficiency, and support our global and domestic clients. The ideal candidate will have deep logistics expertise, strong leadership skills, proficiency in CargoWise, and bilingual English/Chinese communication capabilities. This role is pivotal in enhancing operational control, compliance, customer satisfaction, and long-term growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Import Operations Management (Ocean & Air) 🌊✈️
    • Manage full-cycle import activities including FCL, LCL, air freight (direct and consolidated), and special cargo.
    • Handle documentation such as HBL, MBL, AMS filings, ISF (10+2), arrival notices, delivery orders, and customs coordination.
    • Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs, TSA, bonded cargo procedures, and international trade laws.
    • Track shipment milestones from origin to final delivery.
    • Coordinate with customs brokers, carriers, co-loaders, truckers, CFS stations, and warehouses.
    • Address shipment delays, documentation issues, customs holds, and carrier concerns proactively.
    • Maintain service performance standards and exceed client KPIs.
    • Manage demurrage and detention strategies to minimize costs.
  • Compliance & Risk Management 🛡️
    • Submit import filings (AMS, ISF) accurately and on time.
    • Ensure adherence to CBP regulations, bonded warehouse rules, and TSA standards.
    • Implement internal audits to mitigate operational and regulatory risks.
    • Stay informed on regulatory updates impacting import activities.
    • Handle claims for damaged or lost cargo effectively.
  • Leadership & Team Management 👥
    • Supervise, mentor, and lead the import operations team.
    • Define performance expectations and KPIs.
    • Conduct performance reviews and coaching sessions.
    • Develop training programs to ensure documentation accuracy and system proficiency.
    • Balance workloads to ensure timely processing and delivery.
    • Foster a high-performance, accountable work environment.
  • Process Optimization & SOP Development ⚙️
    • Create and refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    • Identify operational bottlenecks and implement efficiency improvements.
    • Standardize documentation processes to reduce errors and rework.
    • Enhance communication workflows between Operations, Sales, and Accounting.
    • Improve shipment tracking visibility and reporting capabilities.
  • System & Data Management (CargoWise Focus) 💻
    • Operate CargoWise for processing shipments, tracking milestones, billing, and reporting.
    • Ensure data accuracy and integrity within the system.
    • Monitor system usage and enforce data standards.
    • Generate key operational KPIs, including:
      • On-time delivery rate
      • Customs clearance performance
      • Demurrage/detention metrics
      • Shipment volume analysis
    • Collaborate on system enhancements to improve automation and reporting.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration 🤝
    • Partner with Sales for client onboarding and pricing strategies.
    • Coordinate with Accounting for billing accuracy, accruals, and vendor payments.
    • Support customer service initiatives to enhance client retention and growth.
    • Maintain relationships with overseas agents and carrier partners.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in Freight Forwarding / NVOCC import operations (Ocean & Air).
  • At least 2+ years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • U.S. Customs regulations (CBP)
    • AMS / ISF filing requirements
    • TSA cargo security standards
    • Bonded cargo procedures
  • Experience managing full documentation cycles from origin to final delivery.
  • Established relationships with carriers, overseas agents, and logistics partners are preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
