Rumson Country Day School is seeking a passionate and dynamic educator to inspire students in learning Spanish and/or French, fostering cultural understanding and language proficiency in grades 5 through 8.
Position Overview 📝
We are looking for a skilled World Language Teacher who will create an engaging, communicative classroom environment that emphasizes cultural appreciation and real-world language use. The teacher will develop student-centered lessons aligned with our curriculum, support diverse learners, collaborate with colleagues and families, and serve as a middle school advisor to enrich the student experience.
Key Responsibilities 🎯
Instruction & Curriculum
- Teach Spanish and/or French to students in grades 5–8 following the established curriculum.
- Design interactive lessons promoting speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
- Integrate cultural studies to enhance students' understanding of the Spanish- and French-speaking worlds.
- Utilize diverse instructional strategies, including conversation-based learning, games, and project-based activities.
- Assess student progress regularly and provide constructive feedback to support growth.
Student Engagement & Classroom Environment 🚀
- Create a positive, inclusive classroom that fosters participation, confidence, and a love for language learning.
- Encourage curiosity and enthusiasm for exploring new languages and cultures.
- Support students in taking risks and improving proficiency through active communication.
Supporting Diverse Learners 🤝
- Differentiate instruction to accommodate various learning needs.
- Collaborate with learning specialists and colleagues to support all students.
- Provide additional scaffolding and resources to ensure success for every learner.
Advisory & Student Support 🌟
- Serve as a grade-level advisor, mentoring students and supporting their academic, social, and emotional growth.
- Build strong, supportive relationships with students to foster a positive school community.
Communication with Families 🗣️
- Maintain open, proactive communication regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
- Participate in parent conferences and offer meaningful, constructive feedback.
Collaboration & Community Engagement 🤝
- Collaborate with colleagues across grade levels to enhance student learning and school initiatives.
- Contribute to a team-oriented faculty culture.
- Engage in faculty meetings, school activities, and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications 📚
- Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, French, World Languages, Education, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Proficiency in both Spanish and French is essential.
- Experience teaching upper elementary and/or middle school students is a plus.
- Strong understanding of best practices in world language instruction and second language acquisition.
- Ability to craft engaging, student-centered lessons.
- Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills.

Compensation 💼
Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000
