Primary Duties and Responsibilities 🎯
- Emergency Response: Promptly and effectively respond to interpretation requests across the Institute, prioritizing emergencies and urgent needs.
- Timely Service: Arrive on time for appointments and provide continuous interpretation from entry to discharge.
- Accurate Interpretation: Convey complex medical information accurately and understandably, including consent forms, diagnoses, procedures, discharge plans, and other patient-related information.
- Patient & Provider Support: Assist patients and clinical staff professionally and courteously, referring to additional resources when necessary.
- Professional Development: Pursue ongoing evaluation, certification, and training in interpretation, healthcare practices, cultural competence, and beliefs.
- Collaboration & Office Support: Foster a collaborative environment and assist with administrative tasks as needed.
- Assignment Management: Accept and process language-specific assignments following office protocols and log activities properly.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate documentation of services and patient interactions.
- Issue Resolution: Handle routine issues independently and escalate complex matters to the Supervisor.
- Multi-Modal Interpretation: Perform in-person, video, or telephonic medical interpretation, respecting cultural diversity.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Recognize and respect diverse backgrounds and act as a cultural broker when necessary.
- Ethical Practice: Follow established Medical Interpreter Codes of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
- Additional Tasks: Engage in other duties as assigned and complete ongoing competence assessments.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 🔍
- Attention to Detail: Focused and culturally sensitive communication, ensuring complete and accurate information transfer.

Minimum Job Qualifications ✔️
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Psychology, or related field (preferred).
- At least 1 year of experience as a medical interpreter.
- Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, diagnostics, and interpreting ethics.
- Fluency in English and target language (verbal and written).
- Completion of a recognized medical interpreter training program; National Certification preferred.
License/Certification/Registration 📜
- Certificate of completion of medical interpreter training program (required).

Compensation & Benefits 💰
The pay range for this position is $56,000.00 - $64,200.00. Salaries are determined based on market conditions, experience, skills, and internal factors. For union roles, pay is guided by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
