Medical Assistant at Oak Street Health
About the Role
The purpose of a Medical Assistant (MA) at Oak Street Health is to gather essential medical information from patients, ensuring providers have accurate data for making informed healthcare decisions. MAs are vital members of our Care Teams, reporting to the Practice Manager or Center Operations Specialist. This role demands high flexibility, energy, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills. Building strong relationships with Oak Street Health members and collaborating closely with teammates are key to delivering an unmatched patient experience while supporting clinical outcomes. This includes assisting with health assessments via screenings and routine diagnostic tests during appointments. 🩺
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure smooth patient flow: room patients promptly, take vital signs, complete screenings, and medication reviews
- Inventory management: stock exam rooms and supplies
- Respond to telephonic patient requests (e.g., lab results, record faxing)
- Administer vaccinations and perform point-of-care tests such as A1C, spirometry, EKGs, blood draws, subject to state regulations
- Import documents into EMR via scanning or PDF upload
- Participate in care team meetings to discuss patient care and clinic operations
- Process orders for durable medical equipment
- Request external medical records as needed
- Conduct routine quality control checks, including infection control and equipment maintenance
- Assist in maintaining the center lab and other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Skills
Required Qualifications
- State or national certification (as required) or graduation from an accredited medical assistant program
- At least 1 year of experience as a medical assistant
- CPR or BLS Certification
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
- Proficiency with computer programs such as Gmail, MS Word, Google Docs, Excel, or Google Sheets
- Ability to communicate in non-English languages as required by the center's demographics
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
Strongly Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of experience in a Medical Assistant role
- Successful mastery of workflow in previous MA positions
- Interest in expanded responsibilities and clinical growth to make a difference in patients’ lives
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience working with geriatric patients
- Phlebotomy Technician Certification

Work Details
Expected Weekly Hours: 40 hours
Time Type: Full time
Compensation & Benefits
The typical pay range for this role is $18.50 - $38.82 per hour. Actual offers depend on experience, education, location, and other factors. This position may include bonuses, commissions, or incentives in addition to base compensation.
