Role Overview:
The Medical Assistant at Oak Street Health plays a crucial role in gathering essential medical information from patients to ensure healthcare providers have accurate data for making informed decisions. Reporting to the Practice Manager or Center Operations Specialist, Medical Assistants are vital members of our Care Teams, requiring flexibility, energy, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills. Building strong relationships with patients and collaborating closely with teammates are key aspects of this role, aimed at delivering an exceptional patient experience and supporting clinical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure smooth patient flow by rooming patients promptly, recording vital signs, and completing screenings and medication reviews
- Inventory management: stock exam rooms and supplies
- Respond to patient inquiries via telephone (e.g., lab results, record faxing)
- Administer vaccinations and perform point-of-care tests such as A1C, spirometry, EKGs, blood draws, etc., in accordance with state regulations
- Import documents into EMR using scanning or PDF upload
- Participate in care team meetings to discuss patient care and clinic operations
- Process orders for durable medical equipment
- Request medical records from outside providers as needed
- Perform routine quality control checks for infection control, equipment, and medication expiration; assist in maintaining the center lab
- Perform other duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- State or national certification (as required) or graduation from an accredited medical assistant program
- At least 1 year of experience as a medical assistant
- CPR or BLS Certification
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
- Proficiency with computer programs such as Gmail, MS Word, Excel, or Google Docs/Sheets
- Fluency in non-English languages relevant to the center's demographic
- Legal authorization to work in the US
Strongly Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of three years’ experience as a Medical Assistant
- Mastery of workflow in previous MA roles
- Desire to expand responsibilities and clinical experience, making a meaningful impact in patient lives
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Over 2 years of experience working with geriatric patients
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician
Essential Skills:
- Problem-solving and professional accountability
- Flexible, positive attitude
- Strong communication and customer service skills
Additional Details:
Anticipated Weekly Hours: 40
Employment Type: Full-time
Pay Range: $18.50 - $42.35 per hour
This salary range reflects base hourly or annual pay, with final offers depending on experience, education, location, and other factors. Role may be eligible for bonus, commission, or incentives.
