Role Description

The purpose of a Medical Assistant at Oak Street Health is to gather all necessary medical information about our patients to support healthcare providers in making informed decisions. Medical Assistants (MAs) play a crucial role in our care model and are key members of our Care Teams.

Being an MA at Oak Street Health demands high flexibility, energy, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills. You will build relationships with Oak Street Health members and work closely with your teammates to ensure an exceptional patient experience while achieving clinical outcomes. Your responsibilities include assisting in health assessments through screenings and routine diagnostic tests during appointments.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure efficient patient flow: room patients promptly, take vital signs, complete screenings, and medication reviews
  • Manage supplies: inventory and stock examination rooms
  • Respond to patient requests: telephonic support such as lab results and record faxing
  • Follow regulations: administer vaccinations and perform point-of-care tests (e.g., A1C, spirometry, EKGs, blood draws)
  • Maintain documentation: scan or upload documents into EMR
  • Participate in team efforts: engage in care team meetings to discuss patient care and operations
  • Process orders: for durable medical equipment
  • Handle records: request external medical records as needed
  • Perform quality control: infection control, equipment checks, ensure medication and supplies are current
  • Additional duties: as assigned

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • State or national certification (as required by state) or graduation from an accredited medical assistant program
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a Medical Assistant
  • CPR or BLS certification
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
  • Proficiency with computer programs such as Gmail, MS Word, Google Docs, Excel, or Google Sheets
  • Ability to communicate in non-English languages relevant to the center's demographics
  • US work authorization

Strongly Preferred Qualifications

  • At least three years of experience as a Medical Assistant
  • Successful mastery of workflow in previous MA positions
  • Interest in expanded responsibilities and clinical growth to impact patient lives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years working with geriatric patients
  • Phlebotomy Technician Certification

Work Details

  • Estimated Weekly Hours: 40
  • Time Type: Full time

Pay Range 💰

The typical pay range for this role is $18.50 - $42.35 per hour. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, education, location, and other factors. This position may also include bonuses, commissions, or incentive programs.
