Position Overview: Medical Assistant (Care Promoter 1)
The Care Promoter 1 role is an unlicensed medical professional who is cross-trained to perform both routine administrative and clinical tasks to ensure our medical centers operate smoothly. Duties may vary depending on the setting, size, location, and specific needs.
In addition to administrative responsibilities, Care Promoters perform clinical duties under direct supervision of physicians, adhering to state medical practice acts. They are vital members of a Physician-led Care Team that provides comprehensive primary care tailored to specific patient populations.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Measure and record patient vital signs and document medical history and interview details 📝
- Communicate patient needs to the PCP, Clinician, Specialist, and other clinical staff
- Prepare patients for examinations, perform routine screening tests, assist physicians during exams, and explain procedures to patients 🩺
- Observe patients and report changes in their conditions to the medical team
- Perform non-critical medical procedures based on medical instructions and assist with therapeutic tasks
- Collect lab specimens, perform basic waived lab tests, and manage medications including administering, changing dressings, and suturing 🩸
- Maintain supplies, sterilize instruments, and ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards
- Handle communication with patients via phone, relay information, and process prescription calls with physician approval 💊
- Support medication dispensing using the ChenMed Rx system with appropriate medical terminology and professional conduct
- Provide health coaching to promote healthy lifestyle choices, follow-up with patients, and perform other duties as directed by management
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with empathy and compassion ❤️
- Exceptional communication, organization, and time management skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, clinicians, nurses, and administrative staff
- Problem-solving mindset focused on patient care and team goals
- Knowledge of medical terminology, services, standards, and policies
- Proficiency in basic phone and computer operations; skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)
- Attention to detail to ensure accurate documentation and data management
- Ability to maintain organized systems to promote timely patient flow
- Calm and effective in busy, high-pressure situations
- Willingness to travel regionally up to 10% as needed
- Fluency in both English and Vietnamese, spoken and written
Education & Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Completion of a nationally accredited program such as Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, EMT, or Paramedic is required
- Minimum of 1 year of related work experience
- BLS certification for Healthcare Providers is required
- Experience working with geriatric patients is a plus
- Experience with EMR systems preferred
Compensation & Benefits
Pay Range: $17.00 – $24.26/hour 💵
Final compensation depends on experience, education, location, and other factors. The role may also include bonuses or commissions.
