🌐 Exciting Opportunity: Mandarin Toponymist / Geospatial Linguist (TS/SCI Clearance Required)

Leidos is seeking a highly skilled Mandarin Toponymist and Geospatial Linguist to support critical national intelligence missions at a customer site in Springfield, VA. This role requires active TS/SCI clearance and a willingness to obtain a POLY level clearance. 🔍 Job Description

The successful candidate will analyze and integrate feature data within the Geographic Names Database (GNDB), collaborating closely with Intelligence Community geographic names experts. You will utilize agency policies, geospatial tools, and various sources to ensure naming accuracy and consistency across products and queries.

📝 Primary Responsibilities

  • Analyze and Conflate Data: Collaborate with geographic names experts to process Foundation feature data from the GNDB and other repositories.
  • Name and Romanization Guidance: Use BGN guidance and policies to address questions regarding name usage, Romanization systems, and descriptive treatment.
  • Data Maintenance: Accurately input and update GNDB data, ensuring reliability for federal and international users.
  • Research and Geo-Reference: Support topographic and hydrographic source file research, scanning, and geo-referencing to enhance map accuracy. Verify spelling and metadata.
  • Policy Application: Apply policies from BGN, DoS, NATO, and related organizations regarding name treatment.
  • Geospatial Analysis: Utilize ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, and other GIS tools to create shape files, geodatabases, and perform data retrieval and storage.
  • Source Acquisition and Recommendations: Identify native maps or data for acquisition and suggest new sources.
  • Support Translation: Provide foreign language translation support as necessary.
  • Security Compliance: Maintain current ITAR exemptions for applicable partner interactions.

🎓 Basic Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI clearance; willingness to obtain POLY clearance.
  • High school diploma (HS) with 10+ years of relevant education and experience, or equivalent.
  • ILR Skill Level 2+ certification in reading for Mandarin.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro and QGIS.
  • Deep understanding of Geographic Names collection methodologies.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in fast-paced environments, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong research, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Experience working with native maps, historic maps, and imagery for extraction and comparison.
  • Experience creating and managing shapefiles, geo-databases, and data storage solutions.
