Mandarin & Cantonese Video Remote Interpreter (VRI) 🎥🌐

Join our team as a Mandarin and Cantonese Medical VRI, providing on-demand audio and video interpretation services to support our limited English proficient (LEP) community across various sectors such as Healthcare, Government, Community, and Education.

Job Functions

• Deliver professional interpreting sessions: Conduct effective video and audio interpretation with professionalism and clarity.
• Data capture: Record company-provided data during sessions as required.
• Technological adaptability: Quickly adapt to new and evolving interpreting technologies.
• Adhere to standards: Follow interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to each context.
• Cultural sensitivity: Demonstrate commitment to cultural awareness within a diverse environment.
• Client respect: Show respect and understanding of LEP clients’ cultures, dialects, beliefs, and preferences.
• Customer service & passion: Exhibit strong enthusiasm for customer service and interpreting roles.
• Maintain professionalism: Keep a professional demeanor throughout all sessions.
• Clear communication: Speak clearly, using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions in both languages.
• Accuracy: Render precise concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocols.

Qualifications

• Language proficiency: Fluent in both source and target languages (Mandarin, Cantonese to English and vice versa) with strong verbal communication skills.
• Listening & retention: Excellent listening, note-taking, and retention abilities to ensure high accuracy during interpretation.
• Certification: Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or possession of a national certification.
• Ethical standards knowledge: Extensive understanding of IMIA, NBCMI, and NCIHC standards and codes of ethics.
• HIPAA compliance: Ability to work in a HIPAA-compliant environment.
• Age requirement: Must be at least 18 years old.

Preferred Qualifications

• Language literacy: Ability to read and write in both languages.
• Credentials: Degrees or certifications in interpreting practices.
• Certification: National Medical Interpreter Certification (CCHI, NBCMI, or DSHS).
• Training: Completion of accredited medical interpreting courses (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural Interpreting, 40-hour courses).

Technical Requirements 🔧💻

• Internet: High-speed internet connection; cable or fiber optic preferred.
• Workspace: HIPAA-compliant home office with four walls and a locking door.
• Equipment: Direct computer connection to the modem.
• Backdrop: Blue or green background in the home office.
• Environment: Quiet, distraction-free space away from pets, people, and outside noise.
