Position Overview
The Frederick Gunn School is seeking a full-time Mandarin teacher within the World Language Department who will also contribute to another academic department. The ideal candidate enjoys working with high school students of all ages both inside and outside the classroom, and aligns with the school's core values. Passion, energy, creativity, and a strong interest in teaching Mandarin in diverse contexts are essential.

Additional Responsibilities
As with all faculty roles, this position extends beyond classroom teaching to include:
- Serving as a coach, house parent, and advisor within the boarding community
Responsibilities
- Teach up to four sections in an interactive, student-centered classroom
- Design and implement engaging curricula based on project-based and communication-focused pedagogy, emphasizing real-world language use and cultural understanding
- Prepare syllabi, assessments (quizzes, tests), and instructional materials aligned with departmental goals
- Provide guidance, extra help, and review sessions to support student success and growth
- Assess student progress regularly and deliver timely, constructive feedback, including written reports
- Utilize technology and authentic resources to create an immersive target-language environment
- Stay updated on language pedagogy and educational technology, integrating innovations into teaching practices
- Advocate for the Mandarin program by fostering student interest and enthusiasm
- Engage in outreach within the school community to promote language learning opportunities
- Communicate professionally with students, families, and colleagues
- Collaborate across departments to support interdisciplinary learning
- Participate in planning, implementation, and evaluation of the World Language program
