🔍 About the Role

The Tax Manager plays a vital role in preparing tax returns, tax provisions, transfer pricing, and providing expert tax consultation to clients. As a key member of the engagement team, you'll often be the primary point of contact, working closely with clients to develop effective tax strategies and policies. You will also lead internal and external training to foster staff development.

💼 Key Responsibilities

  • Review complex tax returns, including corporate, dual-status, expatriate individual, and partnership filings, applying your accounting training and tax law expertise.
  • Draft and analyze correspondence with federal and state taxing authorities regarding intricate tax issues.
  • Communicate directly with tax auditors on behalf of clients.
  • Research and interpret complex tax laws, resolving questions from client transactions, audits, and filings.
  • Review research and transfer pricing studies prepared by team members, providing insightful feedback.
  • Develop and analyze transfer pricing studies and tax provisions for financial statements.
  • Lead client meetings to ensure satisfaction, provide timely responses, and explore additional service opportunities.
  • Maintain professional relationships through effective oral and written communication.
  • Stay current on tax developments and deepen expertise in specialized areas.
  • Manage multiple engagements while coordinating with team members, ensuring timely delivery within budget.
  • Motivate, train, coach, and evaluate Staff and Seniors to promote professional growth.
  • Monitor engagement team’s technology use and promote a respectful, collaborative work environment.

🎓 Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or a related tax-focused program from an accredited institution.
  • CPA or EA license required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of public accounting experience in tax services.
  • Experience preparing various tax returns, including individual, business, benefit fund, real estate, and exempt organizations.
  • Proficiency in tax accounting software, Excel, Word.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Business-level proficiency in English is required.
  • Dual business-level proficiency in Japanese is required.
  • Detail-oriented with strong multi-tasking abilities.
