About FAO & the Role

Background

FAO, with 195 members including 194 countries and the European Union, operates in over 130 countries to improve food production, nutrition, and environmental sustainability. Our Coordination Office for the West Bank and Gaza implements strategies aligned with national policies and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), aiming to enhance the wellbeing of Palestinian people by making the agrifood system more resilient and inclusive.

The Logistics Assistant will be responsible for overseeing warehouse management, goods distribution, and fleet operations while ensuring high standards of accuracy, safety, and efficiency. Operating independently, the role requires sound judgment in prioritizing tasks and providing expert logistical support.

Key Duties & Responsibilities 🌍🚛

  • Logistics Coordination: Ensure timely handling of logistics functions, overseeing movement of items within FAO offices, suppliers, and sources in a systematic manner.
  • Inventory & Storage Management: Organize office storage, arrange items for easy access, and maintain secure and safe storage of equipment and supplies.
  • Office Setup & Maintenance: Support new office setups, renovations, and ensure full operational capability by liaising with contractors and landlords.
  • Facilities & Maintenance: Supervise cleaning, security, and maintenance services to create a productive work environment.
  • Vehicle Management: Conduct routine checks, minor repairs, and coordinate repairs for assigned vehicles, ensuring safety and cleanliness.
  • Supply & Vendor Management: Serve as the focal point for procurement, liaising with suppliers and service providers, and managing logistics documentation.
  • Security & Emergency Preparedness: Act as the point of contact for security matters, ensuring staff are informed of incidents and alerts, and supervising fleet personnel.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Carry out other duties as required to support office operations efficiently.

Qualifications & Experience 🎓🔧

Educational Requirements:

Secondary School education is required; a first-level university degree in Social Science, Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related fields is advantageous but not mandatory.

Professional Experience:

  • At least 5 years with secondary education or 2 years with a bachelor’s degree in transport and logistics operations.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with UN agencies.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel) and familiarity with office technology.
  • Valid driving license and ability to travel within Jerusalem and the West Bank.
  • Experience managing vehicle fleets, including maintenance and documentation.

Desired Skills & Language Proficiency 🌐

  • Possession of a Category C driving license (up to 12 tons) is preferred.
  • Experience with ERP management systems and logistical support operations are desirable.
  • Proficiency in Arabic is required.
  • Working knowledge of English is required.
  • Knowledge of Hebrew is advantageous.
