Seattle Hebrew Academy Is Hiring A Librarian
Hebrew Academy in Seattle is seeking a passionate Part-Time Librarian to inspire a love of reading and support literacy for students from Early Childhood through 8th grade. 📚✨
Position Overview
The Librarian will oversee the school library, collaborate with faculty, and cultivate a welcoming environment to nurture curiosity, literacy, and a lifetime love of learning among students, staff, and families.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching Duties 🏫
- Develop and deliver weekly library lessons for K-5th grades focusing on:
- Appreciating literature and exploring various genres
- Building information literacy and digital citizenship skills
- Connecting lessons to Judaic holidays, secular celebrations, and current events
- Manage student check-out, recommending books tailored to individual interests and reading levels
- Conduct bi-weekly read-alouds and lessons for preschool classes
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate library resources into the curriculum
Collection Management 📚
- Maintain and grow the library collection, including making purchase decisions and assessing for relevancy and diversity
- Catalog new titles and oversee book processing, inventory, and weeding to ensure collection quality
- Manage ebook and audiobook collections, providing instruction on platforms like Sora/OverDrive
- Ensure all materials are in good condition, repairing or replacing items as needed
General Library Operations 🖥️
- Assist patrons at the circulation desk with borrowing and returning materials
- Supervise Middle School students working in the library
- Support teachers and administrators with library-related needs
Library Space & School-wide Displays 🖼️
- Maintain an inviting, organized environment, redesigning space as needed
- Ensure library equipment and technology are functional and up-to-date
- Create engaging displays to promote books and school events
Communications 📧
- Build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff
- Send regular updates on new titles and library events to faculty
- Notify patrons about overdue or lost books and manage related reimbursements or replacements
Library Events & Activities 🎉
- Plan and host annual author visits for K-5th grades and Middle School
- Organize grade-level lunchtime book clubs and reading buddies
- Assist with the Book Fair, managing class schedules and promoting participation
Administrative & Professional Development
- Manage library software systems and supplies
- Attend professional conferences, webinars, and workshops
- Stay informed on library trends, new books, and authors through journals and professional networks
