Join Our Team as a Language Specialist in a Critical Telecommunications Role! 🌐
Are you a skilled linguist with a passion for technical translation and national security? We’re seeking a dedicated Language Specialist to ensure seamless voice and data communications support at a telecommunications station, around the clock.
📝 Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate in a telecommunications station on a rotating shift, maintaining 24/7 voice and data communication flow between locations.
- Translate documents and information using standard linguistic patterns and specialized military, scientific, and technical terminology.
- Assist technical personnel with installation, repair, troubleshooting, operations, and maintenance of station equipment and systems.
- Conduct research to determine nuanced meanings of specialized terminology, ensuring accurate translation that preserves original intent.
- Perform station operations and maintenance tasks, including routine Preventative Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS).
- Develop reports and coordinate with command and other agencies regarding station performance and operations.

- Position subject to background investigation and suitability determination.
- Must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance eligibility.
- Employ shifts may rotate periodically, and both planned and unplanned overtime are required.

Who Can Apply:
Applicants must meet one of the following employment authorities and provide appropriate documentation:
- Veterans’ Preference: Eligible veterans must submit verification documents.
- Experience: One year of specialized experience translating and interpreting highly technical material between Russian and English, editing complex translations, or assisting with technical reports.
- Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three years of graduate education in Russian or English translation or interpretation.
- Combination: A combination of education and experience totaling at least 100% of requirements.
Additional Notes:
- Current federal employees may be placed on an excepted appointment.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification for Selective Service.
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
- A 3-year trial period applies, assessing fitness and continued employment suitability.
- Direct deposit is mandatory.
- Relocation costs are generally not authorized; incentives may be available for top candidates.
- This position is Mission Essential and requires reporting during emergencies or severe weather events.
- Fluency in Russian (Level 3 of DLPT & OPI) in listening, reading, and speaking is a mandatory requirement.
