Leidos is seeking a highly skilled Kurdish (Sorani) linguist proficient in Arabic to support national security efforts worldwide. About the Role

As a Kurdish (Sorani)/Arabic Linguist, you will provide critical linguistic support across translation, interpretation, transcription, and gisting, assisting in complex tasks with cultural sensitivity and precision. Leidos will sponsor and upgrade security clearances for eligible candidates.

What You'll Do

  • Translation:
    • Accurately translate materials from Kurdish and Arabic into English and vice versa.
    • Capture subtle nuances, cultural references, and abstract concepts with contextual accuracy.
    • Effectively incorporate geopolitical, regional, ethnic, and cultural references.
    • Use terminology consistent with subject matter norms.
  • Interpretation:
    • Provide consecutive interpretation; occasional simultaneous interpretation may be required.
    • Demonstrate high fidelity and fluency, understanding regional dialects and cultural context.
  • Transcription:
    • Listen and transcribe audio or internet-based content accurately and efficiently.
    • Produce high-quality reports in English based on audio/visual materials.
    • Show nuanced understanding of dialectical variations.
  • Gisting and Summarization:
    • Identify and summarize key facts and abstract concepts precisely.
    • Prioritize and extract critical information from large datasets.
    • Utilize reference materials effectively to ensure quality output.

Security Clearance

  • No clearance is required to apply.
  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph after sponsorship and full adjudication.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 4-8 years of relevant experience or Master’s with 2-6 years of experience. Additional experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Translation and/or interpretation degree highly desired.
  • HLT experience a plus.
  • Must pass Leidos-administered language proficiency tests or equivalent at Primary level or higher.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and online research tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting contingency operations as a deployed linguist.
  • Familiarity with the U.S. Intelligence Community, military, or law enforcement environments.
  • Strong communication skills for briefing stakeholders.
  • Multilingual abilities are a significant asset.

Additional Requirements

  • Attend and pass all sponsor-related training.
  • Complete medical, physical, and weapons training as required.
  • Willingness to travel both domestically and abroad, supporting the contract 24/7 when on travel.
