CyraCom Careers Is Hiring A Karen Bilingual Interpreter - Houston, Texas (Full-time & Part-time)

This position offers opportunities for both full-time and part-time engagement, focusing on skilled interpretation services across various languages and settings.

Position Overview

This role involves performing skilled consecutive, first-person interpretation under supervision, following well-defined policies and procedures. The interpreter exercises limited independent judgment, referring most issues to a supervisor, especially non-routine matters. The position applies to all languages spoken, including but not limited to Arabic, Bengali, Portuguese, Burmese, Cambodian, Cantonese, Farsi, French, Haitian Creole, Hindi, Hmong, Japanese, Korean, Karen, Mandarin, Nepali, Polish, Punjabi, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, or any combination thereof.

Essential Functions

  • Provides meaning-for-meaning interpreting.
  • Follows CyraCom's interpreter protocols as per training, policies, and procedures.
  • Adheres to all policies regarding information confidentiality and interpreter ethics.
  • Attends all required interpreter training sessions conducted by the CyraCom Quality and Development Department.
  • Continuously enhances vocabulary and subject matter knowledge for various client needs such as medical, legal, and social services.
  • Maintains confidentiality in accordance with CyraCom Interpreter policies.
  • Utilizes standard office equipment including telephones, computers, copiers, and fax machines.
  • Works with MS Office applications such as Outlook, Word, and Edge (or other internet browsers).
  • Demonstrates reliable attendance, follows both written and verbal instructions, and completes tasks on schedule.
  • Reads, writes, and communicates effectively in English and the target language.
  • Communicates in person and via telephone following company policies.
  • Learns from instructions, observations, and mistakes, working independently or collaboratively.
  • Interacts professionally with co-workers, supervisors, and clients.
  • Works under supervision, receiving feedback and coaching as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 🛠️

  • Fluency in English and the target language.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both languages.
  • Basic understanding of linguistics and cultural differences.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations.
  • Calm and effective reaction in emergency situations.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise initiative within company guidelines.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality as per company policies.
  • Skills in keeping supervisors informed about issues.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and web browsers.
  • Competence in operating common office equipment such as computers, fax machines, copiers, and telephones.
