Position Overview
The Hudson Vicinage is seeking motivated individuals to perform clerical, administrative, and support functions related to court proceedings, court operations, and public service. As part of our team, you'll serve as a vital contact for clients, customers, and court users, ensuring efficient and professional service.
Example Duties
- Complete standard office and agency forms
- Maintain records, files, and written materials
- Handle mail, cards, letters, forms, and packages
- Operate photocopiers and scanners
- Provide quality customer service to court users and internal staff
- Offer information to clients, the public, and court participants
- Bilingual support: Assist clients in both English and Spanish
- Check-in jurors via Zoom or in person
- Record information during civil and criminal trials
- Coordinate case-related information and materials
- Update case files and obtain necessary information from various sources
- Record data into computerized systems
- Draft routine correspondence and select appropriate form letters
- Ensure the security and confidentiality of records and equipment
- Answer phones and prepare files for scanning
- Perform other related duties as needed
- Note: Some positions may require operation of motor vehicles such as automobiles, vans, or trucks

Qualifications & Skills
Testing & Skills
Applicants selected for interviews must pass an examination demonstrating a keyboarding speed of at least 25 words per minute, administered by the appointing authority. Alternatively, applicants can demonstrate this competency through other qualifications:
- Current typing proficiency certification issued by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission or Judiciary
- Judiciary staff with permanent status in a qualifying career service title
- Judiciary staff in unclassified titles requiring such testing
Bilingual Ability
If applying for a bilingual role, candidates must pass the New Jersey Civil Service Commission Bilingual Communicative Ability Test (BICAT) or demonstrate established bilingual proficiency.
Additional Conditions & Requirements
- Physical Ability: Ability to climb, stand, reach, and lift weights up to 75 pounds for some positions
- Driver’s License: Valid New Jersey driver’s license required if vehicle operation is necessary
- Work Authorization: U.S. citizenship not required; must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Background Check: Must consent to a thorough background check, including fingerprinting
- Residency Law: Newly hired employees must establish principal residence in New Jersey within one year, with possible exemptions for hardship or critical employer needs
